Feasts, Fractured Femurs And Fig Trees

Spring came and went in a blur.  Baseball is over, track and field is over, a First Communion happened, and a child fractured a femur. It made for a pretty eventful month. The next few months promises no let-up as we prepare a child to attend a brick and mortar high school on top of the usual productive happenings that Summer offers.  Note that I refuse to name it busy.  It is productive time...or at least that's what I tell my brain.

I've been pondering the word productive in relation to the unproductive fig tree episode in the Gospel (Mark 11:11-26). There are moments in my life when I wonder(ed) if I bore some sort of resemblance to the fig tree, not necessarily cursed but certainly withered to roots and bearing no fruit. As melancholy as that pondering sounds it really is a wake-up call and quite the motivational tool in renewing the spiritual life. If I exerted even half the effort in my spiritual life as I do my temporal life my faith might grow by leaps and bounds. Taking the counsel dispensed to me (see previous post), I am armed with paper and pen, a few good books, the Sacraments, some sacramentals, and a simple plan to revive my spiritual roots. Failing to plan is planning to fail and all that. It should make for an interesting Summer.  I'm pretty sure you will get the play by play on this blog. Pray for me.

And as always, this post will not be complete if I don't post pictures for those of you who have cursed the withered roots of social media:
