Health Is Wealth

Yesterday I shared with you the spiritual component of my homeschool plan.  Today I am writing about the physical component of that plan. We all know the cliche, health is wealth, if you don't take care of you who will, and various other exhortation to take care of yourself.  I struggle in that area of my life.  The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. The chore list and various other (welcome) distractions normally take up that time which I could very well use to exercise.  Despite all the various posts I have had on P90x and Insanity I still struggle everyday to tie my laces together and get off the couch.  But when I do I'm always glad I did. I have been on a more consistent exercise schedule for a couple of months.  There's no magic formula other than just making up my mind and convincing my brain to just do it.  Once it registers with the brain then the body (reluctantly, at first) follows.  The key for me is putting exercise gear on first thing in the morning.  Even if my chores have to be done first, when I am wearing exercise clothes it helps remind me to make time that day.  There is nothing more discouraging than changing from exercise clothes to pajamas knowing I did not actually exercise!

Here is the rest of my notes:

  • exercise- the p90x/Insanity/Rockin' Body hybrid continues, we are hoping to add Body Beast for variety. My favorite fitness blog is here -http://dysfunctionalparrot.com/
  • regular sleep- with the rigors of my fitness program it is important for me to get a good sleep, I try to sneak in a nap here and there during the day
  • lots of water - I'm so bad at this! dare I say I find water boring?! I'm working on it.
  • eat healthier - this applies more to my snacking habits as our main meals do tend to be healthy but I need healthier snacks to support the caloric-intake requirements of my fitness program
  • be outside more - this is harder than it sounds (for me), it's easy to shoo my kids out to play while I busy myself with chores or sit on my behind wasting time on the internets.  Recently I've been taking the kids  on bike rides or even when I'm not playing I sit outside to watch them play.
To prove I am doing my best -
homemade veggie pizza using naan bread

the not-so-boring peach/watermelon water
May you all have a healthy school year!

  1. Yes and yes! Though I struggle horribly too. I get on a kick only to have my body betray me. But those mornings I get up and out, even if I can only finish a slow, easy walk, sure help me mentally and spiritually. I have trouble with the sleeping bit! Glad you keep putting one foot forward. :)

    1. I do tend to get in and out of habit. If I do not exercise for three days straight it goes downhill fast. Now I keep a small fitness calendar to keep track.
