The Baking Girl - Fourth of July Treats and Iced Coffee

With all the rain we have been getting this week the Baking Girl has been entertaining herself in the kitchen.  She made peppermint patties (maybe a blog entry about that later), cookies and various other baked goods. The boy siblings are very happy and very well-fed. The one big benefit I've noticed about all this baking is that she is breezing through her Math (fractions) homework. Figuring out how to cut a recipe in half or doubling it, converting measurements, etc - baking is Math.

She had to use that Mathematical smarts when I asked her to make me the Pioneer Woman's Perfect Iced Coffee recipe.  As I am the only one who drinks ice coffee around here, there was no point in making the full recipe.  With the help of the husband they learned the (convoluted) way of making coffee.  My husband called it worse than Common Core LOL.

As her birthday is close to the Fourth of July, this is her favorite holiday.  She experimented with making cake pops.  I cannot affirm the deliciousness of the recipe because I am trying to avoid sweets while on an exercise regimen. According to the boys it was really good. So for your enjoyment I will share some photos:

she used to donut hole maker to help shape the cake pops
cream cheese frosting
sprinkles
"the cake pop is falling off!!!"
the Fourth of July cake will be gone before the Fourth of July
figuring out measurements with his dad for the iced coffee recipe
fuzzy Mathematical equations complicate a simple recipe
but I'm not complaining as I am the sole beneficiary of this lesson

What are you baking for the Fourth of July?
