Thank You, Neighborhood

We live in the neighborhood where my husband grew up.  It's a tight-knit community of multi-generational (and big) families.  It's not unusual to find out that the coaches or parents of our kid's friends are people my husband's family knew. I came to a better appreciation of this when the volleyball coach, at his championship speech, pointed out that he grew up with practically every parent  in his team.  That was so neat to hear and our kids are totally blown over by the concept that somebody knew their dad in his youth, before they were born!  As someone who grew up in a similar setting, I am so thankful that my kids are experiencing this sort of community for themselves.

I also enjoy the fact that when I run out of things (sugar mostly!) I can run over across the street or next door to beg for it. It also helps that some of my homeschooling friends live close by, close enough for the kids to ride their bike over or have the usual sleepovers and carpools.

I have to admit to not being the most neighborly neighbor all the time (except for when I need sugar LOL), I have so much on my plate most days but when I do get around to visiting I realize how good we have it over here.

With the nearby church right behind my backyard (and the new pastor is amazing! okay, the last one was pretty amazing too) I have no excuse not to take advantage of the various opportunities offered there to grow in holiness.

For this neighborhood, today I am truly thankful.
