The Baking Girl: Turkey Chili And Crockpot Applesauce

" Yet just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down
And do not return there till they have watered the earth,
making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows
and bread to the one who eats...So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth;
It shall not return to me empty, but shall do what pleases me,
achieving the end for which I sent it." - Isaiah 55:10-11

I love rainy days. It is the perfect weather to slow our household down to a soothing rhythm. It's not just calming for me, I notice that the rain makes the kids less prone to getting on each others nerves. When we woke up to the rain this morning I knew I wanted something simmering in the pot all day (other than applesauce).  The Baking Girl volunteered to make Turkey Chili while also helping peel and dice apples for the sauce.  She has never made chili before so she was very excited to be cooking unsupervised for once.  Chili is an easy recipe for kids to do and it is almost always fool-proof (okay you may need to supervise the chili powder!) We do not have a special turkey chili recipe so I just referred her to this one from the Food Network -http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/turkey-chili-recipe3.html For the applesauce recipe this one is our favorite - http://simplegirlathome.blogspot.com/2011/10/slow-cooker-applesauce.html

Some pictures to share, as always:

  1. Yum. Chili ranks right up there for me as well. Or roasted chicken. Chicken and dumplings.

    1. Chicken and dumplings, that we haven't tried yet. Sounds perfect for these cold days.
