Monday Daybook

In my early blogging days one of the things I enjoyed writing was the daybook.  Writing one helped put my week into focus.  I still read my old entries and marvel at those early days with nursing babies or pregnancies, sick week, homeschool chaos, etc.  Life in micro view.  My plan is to write it every Monday.  Here is the one for this week:

Outside My Window...dark, heavy clouds. I haven't yet looked at the forecast but it looks like rain today.  I keep stopping from writing this entry to attend to my kids.  An hour after starting it is now bright and sunny.

I'm Listening To...Father John Riccardo streaming on the St. Gabriel radio app on my phone. He is talking about sacramental marriage.  This will be so helpful as I will be teaching a class on the commandments on Sunday. One of the commandments assigned to me is thou shalt not commit adultery.  My intent is to approach it from the view of marriage as a sacrament.  Pray for me!
Father's program, Christ Is The Answer, is at Ave Maria Radio

There's also some construction happening in the house behind me.  Lots of pounding and loud noises.  My elderly neighbor will not be happy. It woke my middle child and he is not happy.  And now my daughter who is under the weather is also up and annoyed.  She's annoyed that there's not even a rhythm to the pounding. Musical brain problems.

The Week Ahead...looking forward to Wednesday, national testing day.  My older kids will have early dismissal and that is always a treat for them and for me. The weather will also start cooling down so maybe we can pick apples and pumpkins over the weekend. It's only Monday but the weekend is already on my mind.

What's Cooking...I stocked up on meats only found at the Asian store so it's Filipino food week over here. Did not find a slab of pork belly which I've been craving for a while.  Maybe next week.  Yes, we mostly eat Filipino food with a sprinkling of meat and potatoes so my husband won't forget his patrimony hahaha.  I've also re-stocked my baking supplies in anticipation of the cooler weather at the end of the week.  Lots of baked goods request from the littles.

Homeschool Is Cool...we picked up Latin again this year.  I forget how quick kids minds are to memorize.  I wasn't sure how my younger boys will take to it but so far they are loving it. My youngest is very partial to the Latin Gloria at Mass.  He always smiles when he hears the first strain of the chant.

Great Nature...can't wait to go on a hike.  Researching some possible new trails.  In future daybooks this line will have nature photos taken by my daughter.  She is taking a photography class this semester.

Prayers...oh so many.  My prayer list is long both perpetual and momentary.  The perpetual list is of my friends who are carrying a constant cross. Their witness to me is a source of inspiration.  Praying also for a friend who lost her grandchild, a friend who lost a child a week after birth.  Also praying for the intentions of my prayer partner this year.  Every year, at our homeschool retreat we get to draw lots to see who are prayer partner is.  So for a whole year someone is dedicated to praying for my intentions and I am dedicated to theirs.  What a consolation.

What I'm reading...the even better question is what am I not reading!  Between homeschool reading and CCD reading my reading glasses are getting a good workout.  I did download a rosary meditation book last night through Kindle Unlimited.  I've been looking for a good meditation book to aid my arid prayers.  I told my husband I wanted a simple one that is not a meditation for someone looking to earn a theology degree (no offense to you theologians), preferably free.  The book I found is The School Of Mary by Monsignor Kolfhaus, it's free if you have Kindle Unlimited.  I haven't yet read the meditations but I'm already so impressed with the introduction! You know there will be a blog post about this book.

Happy Monday! Don't forget to visit my friend Nicole at Just Like Mary, she is a true friend for blogging with me all of October.  She was also my inspiration to write a daybook.

  1. I've always loved this kind of post. I know many call it daybook, but I call it "Saturday Morning Reflections" simply because that's the day I have more time to actually write a post. :)

Charming Charlies! I have never been in this store until last Friday. It was such a fun store. It's probably a good thing I live in the middle of nowhere.

Pork belly. I'd love to come for a meal at your house.

I miss you! So glad we have technology to stay in touch, even just a little. :)

  2. Charming Charlie was a Houston TX thing when I visit my sister there. When they came to Ohio I was so happy. I don't buy purses or jewelry anywhere else.

You need to come to the Opus retreats so we see each other more! Miss you too!

  3. Remind me. I always miss it though I seem to remember a "check out the website for details" kind of message this year. Is it still open to non Opus members?
