While digging through various photo accounts, it occurred to me that a great many of my collection has something to do with family traditions. Some of these traditions are still in our rotation and some, due to time constraints or just plain forgetfulness, have been abandoned. This year the one tradition that was abandoned due to scheduling conflict was apple-picking and visiting the pumpkin patch. If this happened just a few years ago, I would have been really sad and disappointed. Maybe owing to maturity and foregoing sentimentality for its own sake, I grieve this omission less than I normally would. I'm not even sure if there will be a next time as the oldest will be in college next fall. I may yet grieve next year!
We have fond memories of hosting Easter and Thanksgiving, cutting down Christmas trees, cabin vacations, feast days, Lord of The Rings marathons, and even as simple and silly as having the kids jump on a pile of leaves. And as our life continues to change and be re-shaped I am curious to find out what new traditions will be made. In the meantime, looking at photos and recalling the stories behind them, for these, I am so thankful today.
What are your favorite family traditions?
Very sweet. My kids are so excited for Thanksgiving, which is a super quiet affair in our household (less family overall, some work, some have long ago split off and do their own thing). So I guess it really is about the food for them? Haha. :)
ReplyDeleteWe get to skip hosting Thanksgiving this year! It will be all about eating other people's cooking for me today. Is it weird that I am looking forward to not eating my own cooking? hahaha
