Let's Talk About Fall Favorites

"You adorn the year with your bounty; your paths drip with fruitful rain. The meadows of the wilderness also drip; the hills are robed with joy. The pastures are clothed with flocks, the valleys blanketed with grain; they cheer and sing for joy" - Psalm 65:12-14

One of my favorite things about living in Ohio is the spectacular Fall season.  It is here where I truly get to appreciate the four seasons.  Having lived my early years in a tropical country afterwards moving to a North American city were coniferous trees outnumber deciduous ones, Fall in Ohio quickly became my favorite time of the year.

There's something about this season that inspires me (hence the 31-day blogging!)  It inspires me to write, to exercise, to re-assess my life, to pray and of course, to decorate.  It inspires me to nest, to create a warm and cozy home. Whenever I get in a funk all I have to do is pop over to Pinterest and search for Autumn inspiration to cheer me up and get my creative juices flowing.  It is also the same Pinterest that gave me the idea to write about the things I love about Fall. In no particular order these are a few of my favorite things...
  • trip to the pumpkin patch (preferably on a weekday to avoid the masses)
  • apple picking and canning applesauce afterwards (also on a weekday)
  • weekend hikes when the foliage are showing off its vibrant colors
  • slow simmering comfort foods
  • coffee!!! (sorry not a fan of pumpkin spice latte)
  • sweater weather (cliche, I know)
  • early morning quiet
  • no mosquitoes!
  • backyard campfire
  • rabbit-skin blanket (you need one in your life! mine is faux rabbit-skin, it's soft and warm and oh-so cozy)
  • scented candles (I burn it during the school hours to calm my otherwise rambunctious boys)
  • apple pie (and everything baked goods)
  • breath-taking sunrises and sunsets
  •  so many feast days to celebrate!!!
  • Fall fashion (boots and scarves, rich jewel tones)
  • the promise of Winter (which is my second favorite season)
What inspires you about your favorite season?

  1. I love fall. It's my favorite, always has been. I love the colors - the cold, dark gray/blue clouds rolling in a cold front, the golden, cooler sunshine that sets off the green of the grass and the yellow stalks of corn and soybeans in the fields, the misty fog. And the wind! I love a crisp fall wind. I know fall is a time of ending and harvesting, but that wind reminds me that I'm still alive. I love the clothes - jeans, t-shirt and long sleeve when necessary - not too hot, comfy, and just enough. And the food - of course. Who doesn't like comfort food, warm and filling?
