Wasted Time

There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God. - Ecclesiastes 2:24

I wasn't sure I wanted to write about today's Write31Days prompt - "how you enjoy wasting time".  For one "enjoying" and "wasting" in the same sentence conjures all sorts of mixed emotions in me, foremost of which is guilt.  It's not unusual for us parents to feel guilty when we waste time.  We are so used to putting out fires left and right that a downtime makes us feel uncomfortable.  What a bunch of guilty messes we are! (or maybe I'm the only one)

The problem with me is that I tend to have an addictive personality.  For example, when I read a particularly good book I get so immersed that it's so hard to pull myself away.  It is the same issue with being online.  The longer I waste time the less enjoyable it becomes and then the guilt sets in.   Temperance is, indeed, a virtue.

The one enjoyable time-wasting event for me usually happens in the summer.  That's when I pick an afternoon to binge-watch a favorite series (Downton Abbey, Pride and Prejudice, Cranford, Larkrise to Candleford, etc). Another, is just sitting on my front porch chit-chatting with my kids or watching them play.  I also enjoy wasting time journaling and blogging.  Those are the things I don't feel so guilty about.

What about you, how do you enjoy wasting time?  Now that you're done here go and visit these amazing people and it won't be a waste of time - Autumn, Nicole, Barb, and Christine
